When we invited marathon runners from all over the world to participate who would have thought, Zeus, the king of Gods would have accepted our invitation. From atop lofty Mt. Olympus, Greece, Zeus traveled to see how Greece’s original marathon had withstood the test of time. ‘Where were you when Mayor Prisca flagged off the 2006 Kisumu World AIDS Marathon?’ Surely Zeus will remember where he was. And so on this World AIDS Day 2006, we can take comfort that Zeus has come from another land and time to bless our marathon. We can only pray that Zeus’s appearance may not be all that coincidental and may this be the year a cure or vaccine for AIDS is discovered.

Positive thinking rules. I can do this. I CAN do this. I CAN FINISH this MARATHON.

Richard telling Mayor Prisca, ‘Hey, wait a second, you got the wrong guy, I never said I could finish the marathon in less than three hours.’

Well wishers Mayor Prisca and Dr. Timothy Thomas pumping up the runners and reminding them why they are here today.

Richard was wondering, ‘do you think anyone would not notice if I hopped a ride and finished in a few minutes after two hours.’

Richard again ponders whether or not to call it quits but his four running buddies ran along with him for eight miles. Note the little guy on the right, about five years old, running barefoot on some of the roughest terrain marathoners have ever run on. Bare feet rule the day in Kenya so think of that ladies in the Western World, next time you need to but your umpteenth pair of shoes. A $200 pair of shoes could have fed another 40 orphans dinner and provided them with transportation to and from the dinner at the YMCA the night before the marathon.

Bananas, Jodi and two runners from the Texas Marathoners ran with Jodi the entire race…. No, not the bananas, just the two runners.

Richard proudly wearing his Key to the City. Mayor Prisca, Jodi, and mayor’s assistant. After meeting with the mayor, Richard and Josephine headed off to reserve Moi Stadium for the December 2nd free concert. Someone had canceled our booking at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Stadium where the concert had been schedule to take place. Imagine telling Donald Trump that his stage set for ‘The Apprentice’ had been booked by Rosie and ‘The View’ 24 hours before ‘The Apprentice’ was to be taped!

One of these two is going to get slaughtered at the World AIDS Marathon tomorrow and the odds are it will not be the goat. The goat overslept the day of the marathon. Richard did finish the marathon.

500 orphans were fed on November 30th. The Richard M. Brodsky Foundation is hoping these dinners can happen more often. All it takes is money, and as one of the volunteers said, ‘We brought hope to the orphans.’

Hey, I saw that outfit in Bergdorf’s for $750. Here in Africa it would cost less than $7.50.

It’s hard to believe these children are orphans and they can still smile and they don’t even have IPODS. It makes you wonder are IPODS really necessary to put a smile on a child’s face or for the same money you can feed about 40 orphans. IPOD, feed 40 orphans, IPOD, feed 40 orphans? Which is better? Guess IPOD won’t be a corporate sponsor for the 2007 World AIDS Marathon.
